In the Nakyal constituency, several seats in the local body wards have been vacant for months due to deaths, entering the NTS, and resignations. The delay in by-elections for these seats has become a major concern for the public, while the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has yet to take any action on the matter.
More than six seats for by-elections in Nakyal have been vacant for months, but the silence of the Election Commission is generating public anger. The public says that the delay in the electoral process is negatively impacting the democratic system and eroding public trust.
Members of the Joint Public Action Committee, Advocate Shah Nawaz Ali Sher, Advocate Sardar Ali Afzal, and Advocate Sardar Javed Anwar Khan, have demanded that the Election Commission hold elections immediately. The committee has stated that if the elections are not conducted by January 30, they will begin a protest campaign and announce their next course of action.
The committee members clarified that they are not participating in the elections, but they will not tolerate any further delays or stagnation in the electoral process. They emphasized that timely elections are the fundamental right of the public and must be fulfilled immediately.
Further delay in holding elections for vacant seats in Nakyal could escalate public reactions and pose a serious challenge to the strengthening of democracy.
